The Kantipur Media Group was the first news publication house to have its homepage with the domain name ‘kantipuronline.com’. In August 2015, the web portal was redesigned as ‘ekantipur’. Ekantipur acts as the aggregator of content generated by the Group’s seven individual products. With traffic from both within Nepal and outside, ekantipur is Nepal’s most visited news portal. The homepage of Ekantipur has three columns, the middle of which provides previews to news and articles from the KMG’s products. Using the ‘settings’ button, viewers can choose which of the seven products they would like to preview the contents from. If they want to read an article later, they can add it to their ‘Reading List’ by first logging on through their Gmail or Facebook accounts and clicking the ‘book’ icon next to the article preview.
Based on a reader’s reading habits, the website suggests articles in a unique section on the left column called ‘Recommended for You’. The section employs an assessing algorithm which learns about a reader’s preference in news and information and proposes stories accordingly.
On the right column, Ekantipur provides a list of the most viewed and shared articles under the heading ‘Trending News’. The goal is to tailor the homepage to an individual’s needs and desires and make their reading experience more satisfying.
To make accessing information as free from distraction as possible, ekantipur has incorporated ‘Cost Per Impression’ system for its advertisers. The sticky banner ads will be removed and replaced with ads tailored to users. Advertisers will select from a range of packages and pay according to their budget and according to the exact number of clicks on their ads.
